Indonesian Travelers Can Drive in 8 ASEAN Countries, Starting June 2025

Secondtrip - Exciting news for Indonesian travelers who love to explore Southeast Asia. Now you can drive on the roads of ASEAN countries, as an Indonesian driver's license (SIM) will be valid in eight ASEAN countries starting June 2025.

According to the National Police, MediaHub Polri, the eight countries are:

1. Thailand 

2. Laos 

3. Philippines 

4. Vietnam 

5. Brunei Darussalam 

6. Myanmar 

7. Malaysia 

8. Singapore 

This development is seen as a major breakthrough, especially in the integration of legal documents in Indonesia.

Director of Registration and Identification of Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Pol Yusri Yunus also confirmed that the driver's license will come with a new design. 

SIM C will have a motorcycle logo, while SIM A will have a car logo for easier identification by foreign authorities.

However, travelers should still be aware of local regulations. In Singapore, for example, an Indonesian license is only valid for 12 months. After that, you'll need to apply for a local license. 

And in Malaysia, based on a 2018 regulation, foreign drivers must have both an international license and a valid license from their home country, or apply for a Malaysian license.

Berdasarkan informasi dari MediaHub Polri, delapan negara tersebut diantaranya:

Langkah ini dipandang sebagai terobosan besar, terutama dalam integrasi dokumen legalitas di Indonesia.

Direktur Registrasi dan Identifikasi Korlantas Polri, Brigjen Pol Yusri Yunus juga menegaskan bahwa pembaruan SIM juga mencakup desain baru. 

SIM C akan diberikan logo motor, sedangkan SIM A dilengkapi logo mobil, untuk memudahkan identifikasi oleh otoritas asing.

Namun, para travelers juga harus tetap memperhatikan aturan negara setempat. Contohnya saja di Singapura, SIM Indonesia hanya berlaku selama 12 bulan, setelah itu pengemudi harus mengurus SIM lokal. 

Di Malaysia, sejak 2018, pengemudi asing diwajibkan memiliki SIM Internasional dan SIM negara asal yang masih berlaku, atau mengajukan SIM Malaysia.
